About Me

Welcome! If you’ve made it to this page you’ve probably been playing around on Fully Domesticated and want to know who is behind the apron (so-to-speak.) Happy to fill you in…

My name is Marianna and I’m a 32-year-old mother of one “Little Man”, happily married to my grad-school sweetheart. If you’ve been digging through my posts here are some things you might have figured out about me:

  • I’m a health and wellness dork: I went to grad school for public health and social work so things related to health, healthcare, mental health, social justice, community, etc. push my buttons. I write about these things a lot. I don’t purport to be an “expert” in any of them, but my knowledge is based on something!
  • I’m a feminist: Hard to go to a women’s college and not be one (go Smith!!) That said, I definitely bring a feminist lens to how I raise my son. No, I’m not dressing him in a burlap sack and gender-free environment, but I am trying to make conscious decisions about how I parent that are routed in feminism.
  • I’m a foodie: This is connected to health (see above) but also how I was raised. The kitchen is the heart of the home, and food prepared with love is so satisfying. I try to make thoughtful decisions about what I eat and what I feed my family. While I love meat, I try to eat as little of it as possible, and know where it comes from. We are members of a CSA (community supported agriculture) because I believe in supporting local farms and getting great quality produce at the same time.
  • I’m crafty: I sew, knit, quilt, etc. But I don’t do any of that enough. The kitchen and this dang blog suck too much time!
  • I’m a tech dork: My day-job is in non-profit communications with a focus on digital media. I spend a lot of time online, gushing over gadgets I can’t afford, and hypothesizing about how to use tech to change the world.
  • I’m opinionated: I breastfed, cloth diaper, sleep trained, etc. and have strongly held beliefs about why these choices were right for us. And, frankly, may be good choices for you too. That said, who am I to judge? I freely express my opinions here (that, after all, is what a blog is for) and am happy to be engaged in thoughtful discussion about these choices.

So, why “Fully Domesticated”? I admit to having had a bit of a wild past. I was definitely not the wildest kid I knew, but I was really restless. I’ve lived in many places, been to many schools, had random jobs, and worked with unexpected people. Over the years, however, I’ve mellowed out and become domesticated. This is what a fully domesticated person looks like.

Feel free to ask me questions, I’d love to know more about who reads my blog and what you’d like to hear.
